A Sporting Life: Croquet

When one mentions croquet, the mind automatically conjures up images of lazy afternoons on elegant lawns, sipping pimms and exchanging jovial quips about the latest scandals. Despite it's reputation as an upper crust pastime, croquet is a widely accessible pursuit requiring inexpensive equipment and a patch of grass.

The object of the game it simply to play a ball through a series of hoops by striking it with a mallet. Simple. There are a number of codes which dictate rules and scoring, however most people simply play by stroke count (similar to golf).

You can pick up croquet equipment at Amazon or go to Jaques of London for the best gear (my preferred choice). Always go for a wooden set over plastic.
